Walking our golden retriever home from the dog park this evening filled me with such gratitude for all my blessings that I had to sit down and write about it. The crisp Autumn air has come to Curtis Park, and the trees are changing colors. Each home in our neighborhood has character, and it gives me great comfort to observe the care with which my neighbors tend to their properties. As a real estate agent, I've seen many examples of how home owners, through lack of knowledge, time, funds or energy, have inadvertently brought the value of their neighborhood down by their neglect.
It lifts my spirits to see a new landscaping project, roses in bloom, freshly mowed grass and children's Halloween decorations.
Even in times of economic hardship, we can still take pride in our homes by taking care of the exteriors and front yard. Sometimes, we are numb to the appearance of our homes because there are many other pressing issues going on and if it isn't urgent, it goes to the back burner. This weekend, pretend you are a potential buyer and look at your home with a critical eye. What are the first 5 things that you notice? Can you attend to any of them right away?
The benefits of great curb appeal aren't just monetary. A well cared for home sets the stage for your life. A home is your sanctuary from the world. Let it reflect your personality, while keeping its character. The trees in Curtis Park make the neighborhood unique, and nearly every home has its own guardian tree. I love daydreaming about the families that came before mine, who played in their branches, enjoyed their shade, and marveled at their seasonal change.
